🌸 Creative February at Scoil na mBuachaillí! 🎨 This February, we proudly took part in the The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon’s Creative February 2026, joining schools across Cork and around the country to celebrate creativity. With the theme “Connect with Nature,” our pupils turned their attention to the cherry blossom tree on our doorstep 🌸👀 — observing its delicate petals, soft shades and changing form as spring began to unfold 🌷🌤️. Using these details as inspiration, they transformed what they saw into vibrant, carefully crafted artwork full of colour and life 🎨🖌️✨ This is just one example of the wonderful creativity shown throughout the month — more highlights can be seen on our school website. We are incredibly proud of the imagination and enthusiasm displayed by our pupils! 🌿✨ #CreativeFebruary #ScoilnamBuachaillí
♟️✨ Féile Fichille 2026 ✨♟️ Scoil na mBuachaillí was delighted to participate in this year’s Féile Fichille — a one-day, fun and friendly chess tournament organised by Ficheall, the voluntary network of primary teachers in Ireland 🇮🇪♟️ Féile Fichille is all about participation, teamwork and enjoyment, with the focus on giving pupils the experience of tournament play in a supportive and positive environment 🤝😊 The boys proudly represented the school in their colours and played six rounds of chess against other schools ♟️💙 For many, it was their first ever tournament, which made the day even more exciting! Our teams showed fantastic enthusiasm, concentration and sportsmanship throughout 👏 We are extremely proud of how they supported one another and embraced the spirit of the Féile 🌟 It was also lovely for our pupils to catch up with Mr Harrington on the day 😊 A huge well done to all the boys who took part 👏♟️ and sincere thanks to their mentors — Ms Niamh Mac Auley, Mr Ciarán Crowley and Ms Laura Connolly — for running the after-school chess club and preparing the teams so well 🙌 Thank you to Ms Mac Auley, Ms Fitzmaurice and Mr Crowley for accompanying the children to Barryroe 🚌 and to Barryroe national school for hosting such a wonderful and well-organised event 🌟 Maith sibh go léir! 👏♟️
🌍🌊 Green Schools Day of Action – Working Towards Our 8th Green Flag! 💙 Today we held a fantastic Green-Schools Day of Action as part of our application for our 8th Green Flag, focusing on Global Citizenship – Marine Environment. This maintenance theme reminds us that small local actions can make a global impact — especially when it comes to protecting our oceans and seas. 🌊 The day was packed with marine-related activities from Junior Infants right up to 6th Class, including art, storytelling and games, alongside Day 2 of our Oceans of Discovery workshop. Pupils continued their hands-on learning about Ireland’s marine life, biodiversity, conservation and sustainability. 🐠🎨📚 To mark the occasion, staff and students dressed in blue, creating a wonderful sea of colour throughout the school! 💙🐳 We also celebrated the fantastic work already completed in: ♻️ Litter & Waste 💡 Energy 💧 Water 🚶‍♀️ Travel 🌿 Biodiversity 🌎 Global Citizenship Classroom competitions added to the fun while reinforcing key environmental messages and encouraging teamwork. A massive congratulations to Ms Mac Auley for coordinating the entire Day of Action — an incredible achievement! 👏 We are so proud of our pupils, staff and Green Schools Committee as we continue working towards our 8th Green Flag. Together, we are making a difference — for our community and our planet. 🌍✨ #GreenSchools #GlobalCitizenship #MarineEnvironment #8thGreenFlag #Sustainability
🌊 Oceans of Discovery at SNB! 🐚 On Feb 24th & 25th, as part of our Green-Schools Marine Programme, we were thrilled to welcome the fantastic Oceans of Discovery Workshop to SNB. Over two days, every class enjoyed a fun, hands-on experience exploring Ireland’s marine life, ocean biodiversity and the importance of protecting our seas. The workshops perfectly complemented our Green Schools work and inspired our pupils to become responsible ocean stewards. ♻️ A huge thank you to our Green Schools Coordinator, Ms Niamh MacAuley, her Green Schools Committee, and to Luca, Michael & Harry (6th Class) for their early morning help with set-up. We’re also very grateful to Dave from Oceans of Discovery for delivering such an inspiring programme! #GreenSchools #MarineProgramme #OceanEducation #Sustainability 🌊
🏐💙 Primary Game Boys Football – Well Done Seán! 💙🏐 We are incredibly proud of Seán Kennedy, who has taken part in the Primary Game Boys Football Team Selection in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. 👏 This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful honour to represent SNB at this level. Seán should be very proud of himself — as are we! Well done, Sean, on this brilliant accomplishment. 🤸‍♀️ Gymnastics is Back! 🤸‍♂️ We’re delighted to welcome Aoife back to school to kick off our Gymnastics programme! Each class will take part in a 6-week block, giving everyone the chance to build strength, improve balance and coordination, and most importantly – have lots of fun! Block 1 started today with our 3rd to 6th Classes, and there was great energy and excitement in the hall. We can’t wait to see their progress over the next few weeks! Stay tuned for updates as other classes begin their blocks 💪✨
🥞 Pancake Tuesday Fun in Scoil na mBuachaillí! 🥞 What a fantastic day we had celebrating Pancake Tuesday! The delicious smell of fresh pancakes filled the corridors from morning to home time, and there were smiles (and maybe a little bit of chocolate!) everywhere you looked. The boys thoroughly enjoyed their tasty treats and the lovely buzz it brought to the school. Mrs Harte would also like to extend a very warm — and very well-fed — thank you to everyone who kindly sent pancake deliveries to the office. They were gratefully received and disappeared at an impressive speed! 😄🥞
🎭We couldn’t be prouder of Ms Connolly 🎭
🐔🌾 Trip to Lisavaird Co-Op! 🌾🐔 Ms O’Shea and her team had a wonderful shopping trip to Lisavaird Co-Op to pick up essential supplies for our chickens 🛒🐓. As part of caring for our hens, it’s important that we develop a full understanding of every aspect of caring for our hens — from choosing the right feed 🌽 to ensuring they have everything they need to stay healthy, active and content 🥚✨. Experiences like this help us connect learning with real responsibility 📚💛 and show how thoughtful preparation plays a big part in animal care 🌿🐔. A big thank you to the fantastic staff at Lisavaird Co-Op for their help and guidance — we really appreciate the support! 🙌😊
