3rd Class have been hard at work this week transforming their garden into a thriving and colourful space within our school’s Green Hub. This special area, located by the cycle shed, is home not only to our garden beds but also to our bike shelter, leaf composter, and our hens and hen coop—making it a fantastic space for hands-on learning about sustainability.
The children showed great teamwork and enthusiasm as they planted a variety of vegetables including peas, beans, lettuce and basil. They carefully prepared the soil, transplanted seedlings, and built supports for climbing plants using bamboo canes. Throughout the week, they took responsibility for watering, weeding, and caring for their plants, developing a real sense of ownership and pride in their work.
Alongside their vegetables, the class planted flowers which will soon add colour to the area and help attract pollinators. The Green Hub is already coming to life, and it’s wonderful to see the children so engaged in learning about nature, food growing, and the environment.
