Our students recently rolled up their sleeves for one of the most festive and hands-on activities of the year: building gingerbread houses! While it may look like pure seasonal fun, this project is packed with meaningful learning.
As children designed and constructed their gingerbread creations, they explored key skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking. The process also introduced them to real-world STEM concepts—planning stable structures, experimenting with shapes, and testing which materials make the strongest “cement” for their walls and roofs.
From measuring icing to engineering sturdy bases, students used maths, science, and collaboration in a truly delicious context. And of course, the joy and pride on their faces as their gingerbread houses came to life made the experience even sweeter!
